The first one we will look at is the germicidal UV lamp that uses ultra violet light to sanitize any air that passes in front of the UV light. This is the same light that comes from the sun and causes sun burns. UV light air purifiers are used in hospitals, restaurants and large factories to reduce harmful bacteria and germs.
The second kind of air purifier is the ionization purifier or ionizer that uses an electrical field that changes the polarity of pollutants to either negative or positive, by adding or removing an electron in the impurity. These particles then clump together to fall out of the air or to be attracted to metal plates as they pass through an air purifier. The ionization purifier acts as a filter as well, because it collects particles such as animal dander and dust on these metal plates located inside the unit.
The third kind of purifier is the ozone generator that breaks down oxygen into ozone to chemically remove odors and other impurities from the air. The fourth and final purification system is known as an activated carbon air purifier that uses chemical bonding of carbon and air pollutants to purify and clean the air. It is also used to filter particles from the air.
Depending on what kind of pollutants you are trying to get rid of in your home, you may want to choose a combination of the above air purification systems for your particular situation.
